The
School of Environmental Studies was cited as one of three very innovative
schools in 1997 in the Wall Street Journal in an article entitled "Schools
Aren't Brick Boxes Anymore." SES was selected for a site visit by U.S.
Assistant Secretary of Education Patricia McNeil in conjunction with President
Clinton's public address on school modernization during the opening week
of school in September, 1998. The American Institute of Architects also
selected the SES as a model school environment. In addition, the SES was
recognized as a school that exemplifies the features of Breaking Ranks,
published by the National Association of School Principals. As this report
was being concluded, the School of Environmental Studies was also selected
by the U.S. Department of Education as a New American School.
In addition to formal recognition, the SES has had an impact on a large
number of visitors (some almost every week) from throughout the U.S. and
several other countries that have come to the school to learn about its
design and operation as they plan to design a new school or make changes
to an existing school. |
